Tour of Bromley Old Palace - Monday 22nd July 2024
Ten years after the Society's last visit, and for possibly the last time now it and much of the surrounding area has been sold, more than 30 members were guests of the Mayor, Cllr. David Jeffereys and our Vice Chairman, Cllr. Nicholas Bennett. We were also joined by the Mayor's Attendant, Peter.
After giving us a brief history of the current building, dating back to 1775 but subject to some alteration, particularly when Coles Child bought the estate from the Bishop of Rochester in 1845, we were led to various rooms to admire the decorations and, in particular, Mayoral items which had been taken out of the safe for us to see. Unfortuately there wasn't time to visit the well or ice house but they should remain accessible even after the site is redeveloped.
