Cudham village post office opposite the recreation ground in October 1965. Long since closed and now turned into a domestic dwelling called the "Post House", it has lost a door and gained a window.
The Retreat, discretely hidden behind a thick hedge is almost opposite the old post office, justs 50 yhards to the south (1965).
These are Snow's Cottages in Downe in 1965, a short distance from the village centre in Luxted Road, these Grade 2 listed napped flint buildings are still easily recognisable. No 1 & 2, this end, were built in 1737, the other two less impressive cottages 100 years later.
Nos. 3-6 Cross Ashes Cottages 1965 located just as you enter the village from the north end.
Another view of Cross Ashes Cottages showing all six. The bus stop is no longer there (1965).
The Walnut Tree in Hayes in 1970. The building in Hayes Street is still standing (and has become a Cottage) and has acquired chimney pots on the truncated stack. It is no longer a shop.
Another view of The Walnut Tree in 1970 with the spire of St. Mary's chuch, Hayes, in the background.
Hayes CofE primary school near the junction with West Common Road in 1972 is little changed today, apart from no longer being a school! However, it continues to provide facilities for meetings.
Tucked into the wall between the old Hayes school and the adjacent garage in 1972, and today, is the memorial fountain to the Rev. George Varenne Reed who died in 1887.
An odd one - a section of track from the Croydon, Merstham and Godstone Railway 1803-5 (later part of the Surrey Iron Railway) near Shepherds Hill and the Jollife Arms (now Greystone Court flats). Found following excavation. It disappeared sometime before the pub clossed but what happended to it is unknown.
